The Glutes!

The glutes (buttocks) are the most important part of our lower body…and even overall body strength and balance! Not only do our glutes give us strength when we lift heavy weights or load heavy boxes, but they give us a strong foundation for our entire core preventing injuries (especially low back). When our glutes are strong and we understand how to move better/workout smarter we can prevent against most injuries.

Just think about our average day…

We bend over to clean up the floor (kids/dogs toys, garbage, etc.)…

We hinge over or kneel when we dress and put on our shoes…

We carry groceries a few times a week…

The list goes on…

We need to take time strengthening our glutes because without them at optimal benefit, our hamstrings, adductors and piriformis can become overactive which leads to an imbalance. This imbalance can then lead to piriformis syndrome which irritates the sciatic nerve. Some individuals, unfortunately know how much a pain in the BUTT (literally) this can be.

There are also a good list of STRETCHING exercises that can be done in conjunction to prevent sciatica. I continually work these into our plan at the gym as well as my online Regeneration Program.
